Take some time out and visit Jefferson County; you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Located in the center of Alabama state, Birmingham is the county seat of Jefferson County. Much of the county has been urbanized and now houses as many as 1.1 million residents, which is approximately one quarter of Alabama’s entire population.
Birmingham has long been recognized as one of the Nation's top cities for income growth and among the top 10 in the entire United States over the last two decades. For this reason, the county’s economy has continued to diversify and the city has most recently been named one of the best places to live in the nation.
Jefferson County features a lovely humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot summers and mild winters. This type of weather, coupled with abundant rainfall, makes the County a great outdoors vacation destination. The Birmingham Zoo is the perfect place to spend a day with your family. The zoo features over 700 different animal species as well as a new interactive section, specifically suited to children.
Recreational fishing is also one of Jefferson County’s favoured pastimes. Few regions can offer the quality and variety of fishing that Jefferson can offer. In fact, recently Birmingham was named the “Bass Capital of the World” by ESPN. There’s so much to do in Jefferson County that you’ll never grow bored.
